Holidays And Cooking

Date: Nov 17, 2009      Category: Writing Nook

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and I don’t even have a roasting pan. Luckily, on Thanksgiving Day we are eating with my husband’s family. I don’t have to cook or clean, since it’s in a restaurant. I am still planning a Thanksgiving dinner and my own turkey that we can have for anyone who wants to come over. I have been trying to turn Thanksgiving into a tradition for us, but I might have to accept cooking my turkey days after Thanksgiving. Existing traditions have to be respected first and I don’t make the rules.

My menu should be fairly simple with a turkey and traditional sides. I may add soup and appetizers, just to make it a little more interesting. Everyone gets fed up with stuffing and green bean casserole in November. Everyone loves my homemade soups, so I might add that and skip cranberries. I don’t know how anyone find cranberries appetizing. I’m talking about just cranberries (I’ll eat them in cookies) or that canned concoction… yuck.

I could use new Soup Bowl Sets. I used to have a beautiful red set that would get banged up and chipped easily. My family needs something durable yet pretty. My roasting pan went missing, which I’ll have to replace before the big cooking day. I might just look into Cast Cookware Enamel Iron and buy a large set. I’ve been asking for new pots and pans for a while, so I might use the excuse of having to cook for the holidays in order to buy them. At least cookware in this house gets used daily, so we can look at it as an investment.
